PUBLIC HEALTH

Since 2013, Karnataka has taken strong steps to curb tobacco use through the active implementation of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), led by the Department of Health and Family Welfare in partnership with the Karnataka State Police. Comprehensive tobacco control measures have been introduced, such as banning the sale of Gutka, loose cigarettes, and electronic cigarettes, along with strict enforcement of graphic health warnings on tobacco packaging. To further reinforce awareness, health advisories are shown in cinema halls, and smoking in public spaces is limited to designated areas, helping to reduce secondhand smoke exposure and protect community health.
