Route to Nutrition: Salt Reduction Training under PM POSHAN
Under the Route to Nutrition campaign, Verve foundation has been actively working to promote healthier eating practices within government-run school meal programs. One of the key focuses of this initiative is salt reduction in meals provided under the PM POSHAN Scheme.
Training Overview:
The training sessions were conducted across various taluks of Dharwad and Bangalore, including Karwar, Belgavi, Sirsi, Dandeli, Joida, Honnavara,Tumkuru, Gowribidanooru, and Bangalore city each lasting approximately 1.5 hours. Participants included a diverse group of PM POSHAN functionaries such as cook-cum-helpers, school teachers, and Additional Directors of Public Instructions (ADPIs). The sessions focused on key topics including the importance of a healthy and balanced diet, the health risks associated with excessive salt intake, and practical, low-cost strategies to reduce salt in cooking. To support implementation, video demonstrations of low-salt recipes were also showcased, encouraging participants to adopt healthier cooking practices in their daily routines.

The sessions were designed to be highly interactive and practical, helping functionaries adopt healthier cooking practices that can be immediately implemented in school kitchens.
